KIC International Forum 2019: Criminal Justice for Human Dignity and Values

On May 31st, the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC), in conjunction with twelve domestic academic associations, hosted the 2019 Korean Institute of Criminology International Forum (KICIF) on the theme, “Criminal Justice of Human Dignity and Values” at the El Tower located in Seoul, Korea. The international forum was held to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the Institute.

Among the participants were The Honorable Minister of Justice Sang-Ki Park, The Honorable Chairman of the National Research Council for Humanities, Economics, and Social Sciences Kyung-Ryung Seong, The Honorable Chairman of the Policy Committee of the National Assembly Byung-Doo Min who delivered congratulatory remarks. Prominent speakers from both home and abroad delivered their keynote addresses; they were The Honorable Judge and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) Elisabet Fura, The Honorable Judge (Ret.) of the Constitutional Court of Korea Yi-Soo Kim, United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women Dubravka Šimonovic, and Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii Tae-Ung Baik. During the forum, six sessions were held to examine how to uphold inviolable dignity and values of human beings in the six major areas of criminal justice systems: criminal justice reform and indicators; constitutional law and criminal law principles and practices; criminal justice enterprise; criminal procedure; corrections; and international human rights norms and treaties.
